Course Description

Integrated landscape management and large scale landscape restoration must be part of every business's strategy. This is because, in order for the Sustainable Development Goal on Land Degradation Neutrality to be achieved (SDG Number 153), scaling up and acceleration in business-driven landscape rehabilitation are essential. The MOOC is designed to teach the next generation business and development professionals how to recognize the interdependence of businesses and healthy landscapes, and the importance of ecosystem resources.

We have used many methods to justify our continued exploiting the environment in history: tradition, discovery, Manifest Destiny and even Chinese hoaxes. There are no excuses. Every day brings more data about extreme weather and greenhouse gases, as well as shrinking oceans, rising sea levels and a decreasing biodiversity. We have limited resources, so the window of opportunity for positive change, if it is not closed, will be closing soon. All life on earth must adapt, or face certain doom.

This is an alarming prospect that will force all living things on Earth to adapt. The course concerns landscape degradation, a wicked global problem that contributes to Earth's depletion. This course also addresses the business-driven landscape restoration solutions.

We don't want to leave you helpless by the prospects Obreht presents, but we hope you will learn ways you can contribute to making Planet Earth a safer and more habitable place for future generations.

It is important to act quickly and big.

This course will help you gain valuable information and practical skills to use in your work life to address the problem of landscape destruction and restoration.

This is a pressing issue, let's get to it.

The ENABLE Partnership, cofunded by the ERASMUS+ Programme of the European Commission, developed this MOOC. It involves a variety of international organizations, including Rotterdam School of Management and Erasmus University. Commonland is part of the United Nations University Land Restoration Training Programme. Estoril Global Conferences and the Spanish National Research Council.
