Course Description

This course is designed to give you a foundational understanding of the relationships between money, the financial sector, and the macroeconomy. We will be looking at the economics of financial institutions today (e.g. We will examine the economics of modern financial institutions (e.g. banks) including their organization, products and services, risks they take, how they are regulated and how that has changed over time. We will create a conceptual framework to allow us to evaluate how financial regulations and innovations in finance (e.g. securitization, fintech or cryptocurrencies) might impact the macroeconomic, financial, as well as business environment.
