Course Description

Copyright law is unique within the wider intellectual property regime. It protects original expression that has been fixed on a tangible medium and is the result of authorship. This course is for creative professionals such as musicians, screenwriters, documentary filmmakers and artists who wish to understand the limits of U.S. copyright protection. Through an examination of the basic rules and institutions of the copyright system, the course will provide students with an introduction to the law of copyright. The course will cover topics such as copyright law justifications, copyrightable subjects, authorship, nature and scope copyright's exclusive right, fair use and remedies for infringement.
