Course Description

Businesses and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in complex conflict zones present a multitude of security and political issues.

Organisations can become involved in conflicts within their communities and lose sight of their mission.

This ExpertTrack will teach you how to assess and evaluate the opportunities and challenges of working in complex conflict zones.

The Malian conflict will be the focus of the program. Practical exercises and tools will also be used to prepare you for field work, but it's all done in the safety of the classroom.

Learn with Dr Aisha Ahmed, an International Security Expert with a specialisation on civil wars insurgencies organised crime and complex international military intervention.

Dr Ahmad will teach you four courses that will help you evaluate conflict-affected areas and create a plan for humanitarian aid and business success.

It is important to evaluate the environment before you embark on any activity in conflict zones. Conflict mapping is the first step in this process.

This ExpertTrack will teach you how to create conflict maps that include the interests and dominant actors in conflict theatre. This will help you to understand the roles of the different actors in conflict zones, the possible causes and how they may interact.

Nearly everyone doesn't think they are the bad guys in their stories. They think they are the protagonist and the victim of injustices done to them.

This second course will help you gain a deeper understanding of your enemy in conflict zones in order to better plan and understand in a contested setting.

Making mistakes in a conflict zone is dangerous. There are ways to prepare for and plan for business development and humanitarian projects in conflict zones, even when there is uncertainty and instability.
