Course Description

Course 1 begins with an introduction to microscopic and macroscopic thermodynamics. It is a postulatory view. This view makes it easy to grasp the meanings of thermodynamic pressure, temperature, and chemical potential. The Fundamental Relation and its many transformations lead to clear paths to property relations. Ensembles are also needed to understand the relationship between molecular and atomic structural properties. The relationship between atomic structure and molecular properties is then explored from a statistical perspective. This is done using a postulatory approach. This allows us to develop the partition function, which describes the distributions of molecular quantum state as a function independent macroscopic thermodynamic characteristics.
