Course Description

The Internet of Things (IoT), which includes many digital health technologies such as apps, wearable devices and home sensors, is expected to revolutionize healthcare. When will these technologies become useful and practical for older adults with multiple health problems? This is only one of many questions we will address in this course.

Learn how clinicians and older adults manage their health and what to do when they have problems. Also, how to identify the problems that seniors require technological assistance solving.

This course will help you understand the various aspects of creating a useful tool for health. You will be able to learn from a case study how digital health tools can fail, as well as the best ways to make digital health products that are easy for seniors and their family caregivers. We will also discuss the benefits of wearable technology for telecare and monitoring lonely elderly patients.

Taiwan's government has several national health policy, including active aging and participation in age-friendly cities. This review will examine these policies as well as other aspects of Taiwan’s health system. We will look at what we can learn from a system which has provided universal healthcare and unrestricted provider choices for the past 20 years while keeping administrative costs below 1%.
