Course Description

Learn how to play the jazz piano from the blues to a standard.

This course will help you get started playing jazz piano.

To improve your ability to improvise on the piano, you will explore the four routes of improvisation.

Discover the blues on the jazz piano

Although improvisation may seem effortless, it is a complex skill that requires a lot more foundational knowledge. Jazz improvisation requires that you first understand the influences and styles.

This course will familiarize you with blues and teach you why it is so important to jazz piano.

Learn and compare the three major chords and scales used in jazz and classical music. You will also learn how to play open sevenths in root. You will learn the F blues, voiced sevenths, as well as how to play the F American blues, seven scales, full blues, and full-blues scale.

Learn about jazz improvisation theory and the four ways you can improvise

Your improvisation will be enhanced by learning the diminished chord and scale. Before you can start playing and improvising, you'll be able to learn the fundamentals of motivic, scalic and special improvisation.

You will also be able to play along with the Blue Room jazz standards and improvise using your new skills.

This course will give you a solid understanding of blues and jazz improvisation. It is essential to learn how to play jazz piano properly.
