Course Description

You can take this course for credit at CU Boulderas ECEA 5703. This is part of CU Boulderas Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. This course introduces the physical principles of inductors/transformers, such as core material saturation, energy storage, airgap, and energy storage. It also covers reluctance, magnetic circuit modeling and equivalent circuits. A variety of multi-winding transformer models have been developed. These include inductance matrix representations for parallel and series structures. The loss modeling of magnetic components includes core, winding and skin losses. The final step is to develop a comprehensive procedure for optimizing inductors used in switched-mode power conversions.

You will be able to:

Learn the basics of magnet components including inductors, transformers and other magnetic parts

Learn how to model magnetic component losses and design tradeoffs.

Learn how to optimize and design inductors for switched-mode power conversions

The prerequisite for this course is completion of the courses 2 and 3: Introduction to Power Electronics and Converter Circuits.
