Course Description

How we eat and what we do with it have huge impacts on our health and the sustainability and well-being of our planet. What is a sustainable diet? According to the FAO, a sustainable diet promotes health, well-being, and ensures food security for current and future populations. This course focuses on the urgent need for sustainable food systems. It also explains the complicated relationship between climate change and diet. We will discuss current research regarding dietary changes needed in high-, middle-, and low-income nations to achieve sustainability and food security goals.

The Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future offers this course. It draws on our Bloomberg School of Public Health graduate-level food system curriculum. Our flagship Coursera course "An Introduction To The US Food System: Perspectives From Public Health", which runs for eight weeks, may be of interest to you.
