Course Description

This course will teach you about Research for Impact, a collection of principles and practices to help make your research more effective. Research projects had traditionally been designed to generate knowledge, and then communicate that knowledge via journal articles and academic publications. We must do our research differently if we want to make a difference in the way we conduct research. It is important to conduct research that has the potential for influencing policy and practice as well as behaviours and attitudes. Jesse DeMaria-Kinney (left) and Mark New (right), will share the six-week experience with the Adaptation at Scale for Semi-arid Regions Project. This project was where the Research for Impact approach was developed. Researchers and practitioners have joined them to share their experiences with this approach. You will be exploring the five components of the Research for Impact Approach together, which include: Theoretical Change, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategic Partnerships and Strategic Communication; Strategic Communication; Capacity Development; Influencing. This forum will allow you to listen to the experiences of practitioners and researchers on the ground, as well as learn from them. You may also be inspired to implement these principles in your research.

You can enroll for the course at no cost and start immediately. If you complete the requirements of the course, you will have the opportunity to purchase a certificate. It can help you stay motivated. You can also get financial aid.
