Course Description

This course will build upon the lessons from this specialization and focus on specific skills related to surveillance of public health. We will learn how to make the most of surveillance data analysis. This course will focus on the interpretation of time trend data to identify temporal aberrations, as well as the relationship between person, place and time within the context of surveillance. We will also discuss strategies for presenting surveillance data, as well as the complicated legal elements that can affect its use. The next step is to examine surveillance of non-communicable chronic illnesses and how data can be used for prevention. We'll also explore other surveillance systems such as antimicrobial resistance and syndromic monitoring. This course is for public health professionals, with a particular focus on those who work in health surveillance at local, regional, state or national public health agencies. This course is designed to help anyone with an interest in public health surveillance, and show them the best approaches in practice.
