Course Description

Learn how neurobiology is related to a substance abuse disorder

This course is two weeks long and will help you understand neurobiological adaptations during active addiction. It will also help you improve the quality of your care.

You will learn about the neurobiology and genetic causes of addiction.

Using this information, you will be able to see how dysfunction in these neurobiological systems can lead to individuals seeking reward or relief through substance use or other behaviors.

Examine the biopsychosocial model for addiction

You'll learn about the causes of substance abuse disorders, including environmental factors and childhood traumas.

This will allow you to discuss the biopsychosocial model and its implications for treatment and prevention of addiction disease.

Get addiction treatment from industry experts

You will be able to describe how understanding addiction as a chronic illness positively impacts the survival of addicts and their recovery.

Learn from The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) to identify the main medications used in addiction treatment, their effect on brain circuits and homeostasis.

This knowledge will help you to better understand your patients with substance abuse disorders and how to provide quality treatment.
