Course Description

The Power of Markets' opening module covers basic assumptions made by economists about market participants, as well as the notion of opportunity cost and key determinants of demand and supply. The supply-demand framework will be used to predict and explain market outcomes, and how policies can affect them. This module will examine how supply and demand respond to key factors in qualitative (elasticity) terms as well. In the last two weeks, we will examine consumer behavior and demonstrate how preferences and financial constraints drive consumer decisions. The consumer choice framework will be used to analyze investor choices as well as policy options such as ObamaCare or school choice. We will then address how to best distribute goods among society's citizens.
