This course will discuss the myths and facts surrounding obesity. It also discusses key psychological and physiological concepts related to the brain's control over appetite and weight. It is easy to gain and difficult to lose weight due to the environment as well as biological factors. We'll also give you an opportunity to think critically about your knowledge and beliefs. Weekly quizzes are included, as well as a peer-reviewed exercise and discussions on the forum. These activities will prepare you for your final project. It will allow you to show your evidence-informed understanding of the subject and how it can be improved.
Citizen Science projects are featured in the course. Your data will be collected anonymously and used to facilitate discussion among participants about controversial ideas. We hope this will allow us to look at issues such as diet and obesity. This gives a glimpse of the way scientists interpret scientific data and shows how many more there are to be discovered.
