Course Description

This course will cover the science and social consequences of viral infectious disease. We'll start by defining what a virus is and explaining how it uses our bodies and other organisms to reproduce. Next, we'll dive into the human response. We will examine how our immune system works to protect us against pathogenic viruses as well as how science and society can help us to fight them through public health and vaccines. We will examine the COVID-19 pandemic and the development of vaccines. We will be hearing from experts in molecular biology and epidemiology as well as public health.
