Course Description

This tutorial will show you how to model and texture a low-poly game character. Instead of focusing on the larger scales that are common in other tutorials we will limit ourselves to a few thousand polygons. Instead of sculpting high-detail models in ZBrush and Mudbox, we will focus on the character's low polygonal in-game model. After the model is optimized and built, we will focus on adding UVs to it before moving onto painting specular, normal and diffuse texture maps. This tutorial will show you many shortcuts and tips that can be used to save time. Software Required: Silo 2.2, Maya 2012, 3D-Coat 3.7, Photoshop CS4, CrazyBump.

By the end of this tutorial, we will have taken a look at numerous tips, techniques, and shortcuts all geared towards saving precious time by simply focusing on the actual game model itself

Once that's built and optimized, we will then focus on adding a good set of uvs before we move onto painting diffuse, normal, and specular texture maps

Software required silo 2

We will begin, not by sculpting a high detail model in zbrush or mudbox, but by focusing on the character's actual low polygon in-game model
