Course Description

Three people were killed in the crash of an Asiana Airlines plane from Seoul, Korea at San Fransisco International Airport, (SFO), on July 6, 2013. According to the American National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the cause of the crash was most likely caused by the (in)actions of the flight crew. Three teenage girls died in the crash, two of them in the plane and one was hit by a firetruck. Accidents are often caused by human error. NTSB and other organizations report that over 50% of all plane crashes are caused by pilot error. Road accidents account for 90%. These errors can be prevented if safety and security critical systems are designed correctly. This course will prepare you to create secure embedded systems that form the heart of safety and security critical system. In our capstone project, you will even be challenged to create your own landing guiding system. This specialization is ideal for those who are interested in creating secure embedded systems that benefit humanity. EIT Digital selected 3 MOOC topics that are of industrial interest: 1) Embedded hardware and 2) Security in embedded connectivity, and 3) Real time systems. These MOOCs demonstrate how to program Internet-of-Things system programs. We will focus on the tools that are used in today's IoT industry. Our approach is learn-by-programming, where you are exposed to actual development at an early stage. We look forward to seeing you!
