Course Description

Do you want to impress editors, employers, and online readers with your writing skills? Are you looking to earn A grades in essays and term papers? Do you want to be able to read your sentences objectively?

This short course teaches you how to write clearly. It is written by the author of Clear. Precise. Direct: Strategies for Writing (Oxford University Press 2015).

There are four types of wordiness: redundancy; phoney intensifiers; stretchers; and thickeners. They lurk in every writer's writing. This course will help you identify these "weeds" and "speedbumps, and then show you how to eliminate them.

People will find your writing easy to understand.

This course aims to help students understand the problem and recognize the four types. There are no prerequisites or materials.
