Course Description

This course is intended to make science out of social networks, which are at the core of society. We are naturally network scientists. This is because we constantly create new networks, often without realizing it. These network structures have been around for a long time, but computational social science has made it easier to understand and study them. The first part of this course focuses on network structure. These are static snapshots of networks that can reveal important aspects about social systems. You will be able to visualize and analyze your network using a software program in our hands-on lab. This will allow you to better understand the complexity of social networks. The second section of the course will examine how networks change over time. We will examine how we can predict the type of network that will emerge and how we might influence its dynamics.
