This is Part 2 in the Social Norms, Social Change series. This course will cover social change and the tools that can be used to effect change. We'll also put all of what we learned in Part 1 into practice. See Social Norms, Social Change Part I at this link: https://coursera.org/learn/norms This course covers scripts and schemas, the cognitive structures in which social expectations are embedded, and their relationship with social norms. Next, the course examines what it means to abandon norms. This includes the relationship between social expectations and personal beliefs. Additionally, we will evaluate current intervention strategies including legal reforms and information campaigns. We will also examine the various tools that policymakers may use to affect change. Finally, we will highlight the importance of trend-setting social change leaders and the circumstances in which they are able to succeed. This course is jointly offered by Penn and UNICEF.
