Course Description

It is important that we all understand the complexity of the climate crisis and the major transformational changes needed to address it. This three-week course will help you understand how energy can play a significant role in our ability secure a sustainable future. This course is taught by experts from the University of Canterbury College of Engineering (COE). It will allow you to explore the relationship between energy, emissions and climate change and its effects on our environment and future. As you examine the reasons why our current energy systems are not suitable, you will also identify the necessary changes to make for a sustainable future.

These systems are complex and require that you consider different parameters such as economic viability. This will help you to understand the many factors involved in the energy transition. You'll gain an understanding of the current energy system and be able to examine the limitations of renewable energy. This will help you to find solutions to the problems we face. For a deeper understanding on energy systems, you will also be exploring the principles of energy transition and Energy Return on Energy Invested.
