Course Description

Hanguel is also known as Hangul or Han’gŭl. It is the alphabetic system that is used to write the Korean language. It is also known as Chosŏn muntcha in North Korea, and consists of 24 letters, including 14 consonants. It is a combination of the ancient Korean words han (great) and geul (script). The term han can be used to describe Korea as a whole, so it also means 'Korean script'. This course introduces the fundamentals of Hangul, including the principles and systems for vowels and consonants. It also explores the history of Hangeul's creation and usage.
