Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Sambalpur, was founded in August 1956 by the Odisha Government. The University is accredited by the UGC (University Grants Commission) and the AICTE (All India Technical Education Council). Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Sambalpur was primarily run by the UCE (University College of Engineering) as a member of Utkal University. VSSUT Sambalpur is on an area of 502 acres. Initially, the University began to work with 20 students in three branches of engineering, namely civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Sambalpur is named after Veer Surendra Sai, one of the great freedom fighters in India. Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Sambalpur provides admission to UG, PG, M.Phil and doctoral programmes. As per the NIRF Ranking for the year 2021, the university has been ranked 116 in the engineering category whereas it was ranked 119 in the NIRF Ranking for the year 2020 in the engineering category.
