Course Description

‘Supply chain management’ involves the steady flow of goods and services and all processes that transform raw materials into final products. This course identifies the goals of supply chain management and explores its history and the ‘Six Rights’ logistic model. We discuss outsourcing, insourcing, offshoring and reshoring and outline the advantages and disadvantages of third-and fourth-party logistic providers. We provide the skills required to build partnerships with stakeholders in the supply chain that will drive business success. The course describes the main modes of transportation used to move your goods and explains how to choose the appropriate mode to maximise efficiency and decrease transport costs. We show you how to identify your market type and its role in the supply chain to get products and services to customers in a responsive and effective manner. We demonstrate how to identify your strengths and weaknesses using a ‘Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats’ (SWOT) analysis and present real-world examples to help you take stock of the overall health of your supply chain. We then show you how to leverage the five supply chain drivers: production, inventory, location, transportation and information. Finally, this logistics course highlights the top risks facing supply chains and provides some mitigation strategies you can employ to minimise them. We examine some ratios and metrics used to help you evaluate your supply chain and demonstrate the use of the ‘Supply Chain Operations Reference’ (SCOR) model for benchmarking and troubleshooting. We discuss the ‘balanced scorecard’ and go over supply chain management dashboards. The course explains how to identify signs of trouble in the supply chain and provides best logistic practices and sustainable supply chain strategies. This course suits small business owners and anyone who is good at organisation and is interested in starting a career in supply chain management.
