Course Description

Learn more about the importance of outdoor education and climate education

Children all over the globe are demanding a comprehensive and up-to date education on climate change and sustainability. While most teachers agree that climate change education should be mandatory in schools, many feel unprepared to teach it.

This course is two weeks long and will discuss how to integrate climate awareness and sustainable practices into school life. You'll learn how to inspire children by being outdoors and how to create high-quality outdoor learning experiences.

Identify the skills needed to teach sustainability and climate outside

You'll be able to engage with a case from a school that is developing a climate and sustainability education approach through outdoor learning. You'll hear from teachers about how they lead learning sessions outdoors, see climate education in action, then reflect on your own work practices.

Collaborate with others to create an action plan for your own teaching methods

You'll be able to create a plan for your teaching or help the entire school make an impact.

You'll have the opportunity to share your ideas and experiences about teaching climate and sustainability, and to collaborate with others on this course to discuss how to make this learning outside more effective.

Learn from the University of Reading's experts

The University of Reading, one of world's most renowned centres for climate research, developed this course. This course will allow you to hear from meteorologists and experts in outdoor learning, and also explore resources that can be used to raise awareness and take action through climate education outdoors.

This course will help you and your students to create a better future by enabling you to implement climate and sustainability learning outdoors.
