International tax managers work primarily with regulations and reporting. They need to have a solid understanding of international tax laws and regulations, as much of their job involves ensuring compliance. They typically spend a great deal of time preparing and filing tax forms, as well as researching and analyzing tax regulations to propose the most effective strategies for compliance while maximizing corporate profits. International tax managers also assist with tax audits and managing any issues with local, state or regional or national authorities. Additionally, this position involves managing coworkers through day-to-day department management and or or with individual project management.Employers are commonly multinational corporations or public accounting firms whose clients are multinational corporations. Whether working for a multinational company or an accounting firm, international tax managers can expect to work with many accountants and other accountant department personnel within the client company. They also work extensively with the company's upper management. International tax managers primarily work during business hours in an office environment; however, overtime and or or alternative hours may be needed, such as around filing deadlines. Some travel may be required depending on the position.Essential job requirements include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field. Status as a certified public accountant (CPA), a master's degree in a related field or a law degree may be highly desired.
