An assistant operations manager takes the place of the operations manager when necessary and are accountable for maintaining the correct operation of the business in the absence of the operations manager. They generally perform hands-on operations work and handle the administrative responsibilities of the business. They also try to improve the operations of the business by giving effective, actionable feedback to the operations manager. Assistant operations managers must be detail-oriented and stay on task, as well as efficient in scheduling and able to manage the operations manager's calendar of events.An assistant operations manager generally needs a bachelor's degree or equivalent work history as an administrative assistant. They need strong organizational skills to maintain the operation manager's records and compile reports. Strong communication skills, on the phone and in person, are a must; they also must be able to effectively communicate orders from the operations manager to personnel. They also must be able to effectively train personnel, communicate with potential or existing clients, and make recommendations that increase business revenue when possible. Also communicating to new employees and properly training them is essential. Communication with upper management is also required.
