Try Udacity’s Data Science Nanodegree Program to Become a Successful Data Scientist

Course Overview

Data Scientist Nanodegree Program by Udacity teaches you the critical skills required to be a successful data scientist. In this data science course, industry experts will assign you projects and teach you how to set up data pipelines, create recommendation systems, run experiments, deploy cloud solutions, and manage them.

Udacity has a great pool of qualified mentors with them. My mentor gave me advice that helped me to complete my projects faster, and he was there to help me out with resources to learn the same concept in faster ways. On the learners' part, they should be familiar with Python programming, probability, and statistics. Anyone who meets the above eligibility criteria can join this course.

Industries, tech firms, start-ups, and government agencies all need and recruit data science engineers. Some of the crucial potencies you will develop in this course include understanding Descriptive Analytics, Data Wrangling, Exploratory Data Analysis, Inferential Statistics, Git Introductory aspects, Database concepts in MongoDB and SQL, etc.

The Udacity DAND program prepares you to work in the industry with the right mindset and the needed skills. The curriculum is designed such that the chapters include videos, a coding playground, and quizzes. Apart from the main content of the DAND, you can also explore the extra-curricular sections which prepare you for resume writing, cover letter writing, interview preparation, networking, job search strategies and other technical skills.

"The best part about the Udacity DAND course is that on finishing your assignments and projects, you will have a portfolio of projects which would be useful for you to show recruiters."

Insider Tips

In order to get the best out of this data science course, I have included some important tips below that I think you might find useful.

Technical Exhibitionism from the Course

The industry experts will assign you projects and teach you how to set up data pipelines, create recommendation systems, run experiments, deploy cloud solutions, and manage them. In addition, learners should be familiar with Python programming, probability, and statistics. Anyone who meets the above eligibility criteria can join this course.

Build your portfolio on your GitHub profile

With Git, you can push your code to your personal GitHub repository, even directly from the Udacity terminals, so by the time you have your DAND program completed, you have a portfolio of projects which could be showcased to recruiters to prove your technical skills. This increases your chance of being selected for jobs.

Prerequisites

The course is recommended for students who are familiar with Machine Learning (ML) concepts, like those in the Intro to Machine Learning Nanodegree Program. In addition, students should be familiar with Python programming, probability, and statistics.

Assessment and Grading Criteria

The assessment method involves completing assignments and undertaking projects under various modules throughout the degree. These can be research-based or concept specific. The final assessment ends with a capstone project. The evaluations are designed to ensure continuous student engagement with the program and encourage learning.

Hands-on Training or Capstone

This course is developed to help learners understand the components of data streaming systems. The modules of this course are detail-oriented, comprehensive, and practical. Apart from theoretical concepts, the learners also learn through hands-on training. They will then build a real-time analytics application.

Students will also compile data run analytics, and draw insights from reports generated by the streaming console. The course offers learning by solving real-life cases. This provides extensive exposure to learners.

The best part about Udacity DAND is after finishing your assignments and projects, you will have a portfolio of projects which would be useful for you to show recruiters. The kind of projects one usually works on in this curriculum include:

  • Understanding Data Analysis problems
  • Introduction to Data Analysis
  • Wrangle OpenStreetMap Data
  • Exploratory Data Analysis
  • Performing a Hypothesis Testing
  • ML Project
  • Creating a Tableau Story

Final Take

Currently, I am working as a Data Scientist at Seagate Technology. But I was a part of the Infosys-Udacity FastTrack Program and it was a sponsored Nano-degree. This program is aimed at developing skills before joining the company(Infosys) at their office.

I undertook this program to develop my skills before joining the company. This udacity data science nanodegree course is worth it as it prepares you for technical concepts and the soft skills required for working as a Data Analyst. If one avails of all the facilities provided by the DAND, I don’t see a reason one doesn’t get selected for a good job.

Having gone through all these things, I could perform well at my job and be more confident. Python is an essential programming language and having done the projects given in DAND, one has greater clarity of the process and the right way to solve a problem.
