Course Description

These lessons will teach you how to model a pair spur gears used in a windmill water pump motor. This tutorial will start with a tour of the completed spur gear pair mounted onto a mounting stand. We'll also demonstrate how these two gears interact. We will first explore an Excel spreadsheet with gear calculations. Next, we will insert these values into a design drawing, which will drive the main features of each spur gear pair. We will use design automation to speed up the process by embedding SolidWorks global variables and equations into Smart Dimensions. This allows us to create multiple designs in a matter of minutes. We will create the pinion and wheel gears for the windmill engine, then assemble them with the mounting stand. Finally, we will make them work together and discuss any modifications that could be made. You will leave this tutorial with an understanding of and appreciation for how spur gear pairs are made, as well as a model that you can use to create spur gears of your own design. SolidWorks 2012 or higher is required.
