Picture books are bizarre! Picture books are funny! Picture book ideas are everywhere!
This class is taught by Christine Fleming (author/illustrator at Might Could Studios) and is the first part of a series on creating your own children's picture books: Picture Book I: Write Your Story, and Image Books II: Illustrate Your Story.
This class will teach you Christine's steps-by-step process to transform a vague idea into a picture book manuscript. It lasts 50 minutes. The course will explain what a picture book is and its purpose, history, and anatomy.
Now you can dive into the details of writing your story with all that knowledge. Christine will share her story ideas and show you how to get your first draft off the ground. Next, she will walk you through her revision process, describing how she uses plot structure, point-of-view, prose rhythm patterns, poetry techniques and character development. Christine will also discuss common plot issues such as how to create a compelling opening and a satisfying ending, how to reduce word count and how to make a writer's head a dummy to solve pacing problems.
There's also a bonus locked layer that explains the steps involved in submitting your manuscript to publishers. The booklet is available to all students once they have posted their process work in Project Gallery. This guide will help you submit your book to publishers correctly and get your story in front the right people.
This class is ideal for writers, illustrators, designers, and anyone who has ever thought, "Now that would make an amazing picture book!" No prior knowledge is required in writing, publishing, or picture books. You'll have all the tools you need (and an inspirational push) by the end of the class. You can write a picture book that is flawless.
