A bridge between the ancient and modern, Tsinghua University was established in 1911 on the site where the imperial gardens of the Qing Dynasty once lay, holding historical and cultural significance. Located in Beijing, it prides itself in ‘self-discipline and excellence' and inculcates the same in its students. Through education and research, it is developing innovative solutions to solve Chinese and global problems.
With 21 Schools and 59 Departments, the university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees across all disciplines. Known for its engineering and computer science programs, the faculty boasts of having professors who are members of the Chinese Academies of Sciences and Engineering. Although the principal language of instruction is Chinese, it does offer some courses in English. Hence, international students are encouraged to join the university. Based on QS Rankings, Tsinghua ranks 17 in the Global rankings and 2 in Asia. THE ranks it 20th globally and 1st in Asia in 2021. US News also ranked it 28 worldwide, and 1 in ‘Best Global Universities in Asia and China. Tsinghua scores high in academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio and citations per faculty.
A highly competitive university, the acceptance rate for Bachelors is less than 2%. However, the quality of education produces world leaders. Some notable alumni are Xi Jinping, Yang Chen-Ning (Physicist) and Shiing-Shen Chern (Mathematician).
