Wellcome Connecting Science

Wellcome Genome Campus, Hinxton, Hinxton, United Kingdom, CB10 1SA

Institute Overview

Wellcome Connecting Science, the UK's only programme offering open postgraduate courses and conferences on biomedicine, is the only one. We provide advanced training courses and conferences for scientists and researchers. These courses cover basic research, cutting-edge biomedicine, and the application and use of genomics in healthcare.

Working with internationally-renowned scientists and healthcare professionals, we run events at the Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton, a short distance from the historic city of Cambridge and home to the world-famous Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute; and overseas in low- and middle-income countries. Each year, around 60 events are held, bringing together over 3,500 scientists from more than 100 countries and healthcare professionals to the Wellcome Genome Campus.

Our courses are designed for biomedical researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. They provide hands-on, interactive training in the most recent biomedical laboratory techniques as well as data-analysis tools. To ensure participants get maximum benefit from the close supervision and interaction between instructors and each other, the participants are limited to 16-18 participants for laboratory courses and 20-30 participants for computational courses.

A number of courses are offered annually outside of the UK to build capacity in biomedical research in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. These courses are tailored for regional biomedical communities in low and middle-income countries. For many events, additional bursaries and subsidy are available. Our goal is to inspire, educate and transform careers.

Our scientific conferences encourage discussion and debate at cutting-edge biomedical research. They aim to bridge the gap between translational and basic science. The Wellcome Genome Campus conference center hosts conferences, which is an outstanding venue for scientific discussion and a key component of the Campus' commitment towards sharing world-class science.

They work with Connecting Science colleagues to connect scientists, health professionals, and the general public. This creates opportunities and spaces for people to learn more about genomic science and its effects on them.
