Training specialists aim to improve the performance of current employees, and may also train new employees so they meet certain levels of proficiency before beginning work.Training specialists must be able to work well with others, teach a variety of skills and personalities, and make adjustments whenever necessary. Education and field work experience are often necessary for more technical positions, and many training specialists are also tasked with developing teaching materials and lesson plans. Strong computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, are usually required for this position, and they may also develop e-learning modules so that certain areas of training can be completed individually and/or remotely.Advanced computer skills such as web development, audio/video editing, and graphic design skills may be necessary for this position, and tests must be developed and administered to measure retention of materials. It may be necessary to work with management in various departments to determine which training modules should be implemented, and it's also important to keep up with new developments in the field to identify new material which should be be passed on to employees. A bachelor’s degree in a human resources (HR) field and prior experience in teaching adult learners are often minimum requirements for this position.
