An airport manager is required to have good interpersonal skills and to be comfortable leading large teams of subordinates. This manager will be expected to have good computer skills, including Excel, Google docs, and Microsoft Project.As an airport manager, you will be the director of airport security, logistics, and airport emergency procedures. The airport manager will be the first point of contact for other airport administrators, airline officials, and the public. The airport manager is ultimately responsible for the safety and welfare of passengers, pilots, airport staff, and regulatory agencies. The airport manager will be responsible for monitoring all organizational performance targets and ensuring that these targets are being met. The airport manager is responsible for coordinating flight schedules, as well as ground and logistical operations. Responsibilities also may include the negotiation of contracts with materials and equipment suppliers. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three to five years experience managing either airfield or landside operations. A bachelor's degree in aviation or business management is preferred, as is membership in the American Association of Airline Executives. The airport manager must be eligible to obtain a US Customs security badge. The airport manager is expected to maintain both a Security Identification Display Area and Airfield Operation Area clearance. The candidate is expected to provide a record with the Department of Transportation that has no drug or alcohol violations or refusals to test have occurred.
