Description

The process development engineer is responsible for designing and developing processes to optimize process flow, reduce variability within the process, improve operating capabilities, and help ensure workers' safety. Their main objective is to identify, develop, verify, and validate processes from their early developmental stages straight to implementation. Additionally, a process development engineer evaluates and analyzes current processes and provides recommendations as needed. The day-to-day responsibilities of a process development engineer include developing and maintaining processes and validation programs, training entry-level engineers, ensuring processes are aligned with the goals of the business, and measuring processes against corporate goals. Process development engineers work with engineers, production employees, management, supply chain employees, and logistics employees on a daily basis. They usually report to the director of engineering or engineering department lead. This position is typically full time. Most of the engineer's time is spent working with computers, drafting systems, and process control equipment and machinery.Process development engineer jobs typically require a minimum of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, as well as two to five years of relevant experience. Experience in a production or quality management environment is strongly preferred. Additionally, knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) modeling programs (such as SolidWorks) and manufacturing processes is required. Excellent interpersonal and multitasking skills are required. Good analytical skills and proficiency with production drawings and specifications is a must. Familiarity with standard office software (such as the Microsoft Office suite) is generally required or preferred.
