Description

Analog and mixed signal design engineers are responsible for evaluating various mixed signal techniques for dynamic and static power reduction. A strong understanding of circuit simulation and circuit layout are required for this position, as is a knowledge of bipolar, CMOS, passive structure, and interconnect failure modes. The design engineer should also be proficient in computer aided design (CAD) tools including Spice simulation, post processing, and schematic capture. Analog and mixed signal design engineers provide feedback for low-power chip and system architecture, communicate with other design engineers and supervisors on a daily basis, and create and maintain design documentation. These professionals generally work full time in an office setting, although overtime may be occasionally required depending on the needs of the business. At least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is needed for this position. While not required, a master's degree or a Ph.D. is often strongly preferred. Additionally, a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience is generally needed as well; this ensures candidates have board-level circuit layout experience, as well as experience with power circuits design and development. Companies also generally require that these engineers have successfully placed products into volume production in the past. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required for this position. Additionally, the design engineer must work well both independently and in a team setting with colleagues.
