Nutrition managers are responsible for providing an array of food and nutrition services to clients. Their duties include developing and analyzing nutrition programs, creating and enforcing nutrition procedures and preparation, creating and analyzing nutrition plans, and creating and administering menus, plans, and treatments. The nutrition manager may also perform supervisory duties, overseeing the work of dietitians and other relevant professionals, as well as participate in the hiring process and help train new employees.Nutrition managers normally work full time in an office setting, although overtime and/or alternative hours may be required depending on the needs of their employer. They may be employed by hospitals, schools, universities, or individual clients. This job is mainly mental and usually involves sitting for extended periods of time; however, there may be some physical duties that include moving around their office and lifting up to 20 pounds.A bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related field is generally required for this position, and a master's degree may be preferred. Status as a certified nutrition support dietitian (CNSD) may be preferred as well. Previous experience as a dietitian is generally needed, and experience in a managerial capacity may be required or preferred. Nutrition managers must have excellent communication, leadership, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. They should work well in a team setting, as well as on their own with minimal supervision.
