Senior environmental engineers lead a variety of environmental and/or engineering projects for their organization. They work with facilities to ensure that their environmental projects meet all requirements set by the government and their organization. These engineers must develop and communicate goal and expectations with their team, providing guidance, feedback, and discipline to subordinates as necessary. Additionally, they help guide their organization's interactions with state, local, and federal agencies. Senior environmental engineers are also responsible for making sure that projects under their supervision are finished within budget limitations and within deadlines. They provide presentations to management for ongoing projects as necessary.These engineers generally work full time, although overtime may be required to meet deadlines and work on projects. Frequent travel may be required in this position as well.Educational requirements for senior environmental engineer positions generally include at least a bachelor's degree in a related field. At least five to 10 years of experience in environmental engineering is needed as well. Since they work with multiple large teams, senior environmental engineers must be able to communicate effectively and have excellent interpersonal skills.
