Senior storage engineers are responsible for overseeing the use, maintenance, and expansion of data storage solutions for their entire company. They lead and coordinate a team of engineers to ensure that the company's data storage solutions are running optimally and that any network problems are fixed as quickly as possible. Senior storage engineers are expected to keep abreast of new developments related to data storage and spearhead implementation of new solutions whenever feasible. They are responsible for establishing and maintaining good working relations with external vendors, and they are expected to negotiate favorable deals for purchases necessary to complete their duties. Senior storage engineers must communicate with other departments in the company to educate them on the proper use of data storage solutions, as well as identify problems faced by that department that could be solved by the implementation of different solutions.Applicants for these positions are expected to have a minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field such as computer science. Additionally, they must have at least five years experience in a similar job, including experience in designing, maintaining, running, and expanding data storage solutions. Senior storage engineers must demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, as well as keen attention to detail. They must have excellent knowledge various programs related to data storage, including (but not limited to) EMC software solutions, SAN fabric architecture, network-attached storage, and VMWare. Applicants must be equally comfortable using Windows, Mac, and Linux/Unix architecture.
