Description

Biotechnologists perform innovative work in areas such as quality control, quality certification, and data innovation. There are three areas of biotechnology: environmental, industrial, and medical; examples of their work include performing live animal studies and utilizing investigative learning of plants, organisms, organic chemistry, and hereditary qualities to answer questions and solve problems.Biotechnologists are highly skilled in working with and handling animals and thoroughly documenting their work and experiments. They may clone and create compounds for protecting foods and beverages, or produce medicines using methods such as cell culture and genetic modification. Those in this position must be able to work equally well in groups as they do independently., and, generally, more than half of their jobs are spent in animal facilities.Biotechnologists occasionally work with the government on biodefense-related projects, such as with the Department of Defense, and may also work in agriculture and other environmental disciplines. Some employers of biotechnologists may prefer that they have prior work experience and a Ph.D. in a field such as molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, computational biology, or bioinformatics. Those in this position generally work forty hours per week, though their shifts may take place during the day or night and/or on weekends.
