Course Description

This tutorial will teach you how to use TopoGun to create custom topologies for your models. It is common to create high-resolution, detailed models using sculpting software like ZBrush and Mudbox. Although these models are useful for visualizing the appearance of a set or character, they can't be used to rig animations or animate in real-time games engines. The underlying topology used to sculpt might not be suitable for the level of detail we're creating. TopoGun solves these problems by allowing us intuitively to draw new geometry on top of existing models. The new topology can be used to create a new base mesh for sculpting or in a game engine with all the normal and texture maps that TopoGun also makes. The course will begin by discussing the importance of topology and how TopoGun can help you. We will discuss the interface and how to use it. We will discuss the tools that TopoGun offers to modify and create topology. Next, we will cover how to create different types texture maps and how to use a symmetrical workflow. After the tutorial is over, you will be able use TopoGun to speed up your workflow and create a more optimized topology for your projects. To see how TopoGun integrates with other applications, we will also be experimenting with them. It will be useful if you are familiar in Mudbox, ZBrush, and Maya. TopoGun 1.06 software required

Learn the basics of using TopoGun to build custom topology for our models

Once we're done with the tutorial, you'll be able to start using TopoGun to really speed up your workflow and create more optimal topology for your projects

Or the underlying topology we are using to sculpt may not be optimal for the detail we're creating

Software required TopoGun 1

Then we'll cover the generation of different types of texture maps and cover a symmetrical workflow

These days it's common practice to create extremely high-resolution and highly detailed models in sculpting applications like ZBrush or Mudbox

These models can give us a great idea of what a character, set, or prop will look like, but they're usually not optimized for rigging, animation, or use in a real-time game engine

This new topology can be used as a new base mesh when sculpting, or we can use it in a game engine along with all of the texture and normal maps that TopoGun also creates

TopoGun remedies these issues by allowing us to very intuitively draw new geometry right on top of our existing models

We will also be jumping around a little to different applications to see how well TopoGun integrates, so it will be helpful if you have some experience with Maya, ZBrush, or Mudbox

We'll go over the interface and the basics of getting around the application

We'll start off the course by talking about the importance of good topology and why TopoGun can be such a a useful tool

We'll talk about the tools you'll be using in TopoGun to create and modify topology
