Course Description

Learn about the causes of delays in patient flow as they occur within a hospital setting. Learn theories, frameworks, and tools for solving delays in hospitals and other healthcare settings by using case studies. What you'll learn in this microcredential-based stackable course is that you will apply theories to analyze healthcare delays and plan for capacity planning, scheduling, queuing, and scheduling. Critically analyse the causes of operational delays within healthcare contexts. Use appropriate frameworks and tools for exploring delays in real-world emergency, inpatient, and outpatient healthcare. Using a system-wide perspective, you can evaluate and present solutions that improve the patient experience. How you are assessed. Your assessment is a two-part report that is based on a case. First, you will perform a quantitative analysis and second, you will propose a solution for an increased patient demand situation. Co-designed with industry. This industry-led, stackable short course (microcredential), was co-designed by John Rasa, CEO and consultant in health management, with Associate Professor Sandeep Reddy (Director of Master of Business Administration (Healthcare Management). We have created a course that will equip you with skills you can immediately use in your workplace. This microcredential is either stackable or standalone. It can be used to obtain a standalone credential, or it can be stacked with other related microcredentials to help you build towards a full Deakin postgraduate degree.
