Course Description

This course is about understanding the subsistence markets and creating business solutions for billions of people who live in poverty on the global market. We use exercises that allow learners to see the world through the eyes of entrepreneurs and subsistence consumers. This allows them to gain a deeper understanding of the markets. The course also teaches you how to use the Subsistence Marketplaces Initiative's bottom-up approach and how it can be applied in a broad context. Parallel projects will be focused on understanding a particular need in a subsistence market and creating a solution and an implementation plan.

You'll be able:

* Learn about subsistence markets

* Solutions for subsistence markets

* Create enterprise plans for subsistence markets solutions

* Use the bottom-up approach to subsistence markets and other contexts

This course is part of the Gies College of Business' online suite of programs including the iMBA or iMSM. Learn more about admission into these programs and explore how your Coursera work can be leveraged if accepted into a degree program at https://degrees.giesbusiness.illinois.edu/idegrees/.
