How do they know this? Modern astronomy has discovered some amazing things - the origins of elements and the speed at which the universe expands. How do we find out all this? Astronomy wouldn't be possible without technology. Every advance in technology is a step in the right direction. Technology alone isn't enough. To unlock the mysteries of the Universe, we must apply technology critically and have a solid understanding of physics.
We will be covering a new aspect of Astronomical Technology each week, matching each technology with a top science result. The technology will be explained, along with basic physics and how to interpret it to make scientific discoveries.
Video lectures and weekly quizzes will be part of the class. Discussion forums are also included. Five videos will be shown each week, lasting approximately 40 minutes. These videos will follow a consistent pattern: a brief introduction, a science story example, a description of key technology areas, then a glimpse at the practical application and, finally, a peek at the future.
