You are interested in programming in Python in a scientific environment. This course covers algorithms that solve biological problems and a few programming challenges to help you use these Python algorithms. It offers a gently-paced introduction to our Bioinformatics Specialization (https://www.coursera.org/specializations/bioinformatics), preparing learners to take the first course in the Specialization, "Finding Hidden Messages in DNA" (https://www.coursera.org/learn/dna-analysis).
Two components will be required for each week of the course. An interactive textbook describes Python programming problems that are based on real biological issues. Don't worry if you don't know how to program in Python. We provide "Just-in-Time" exercises from the Codecademy Python track (https://www.codecademy.com/learn/python). Each page of our interactive book has its own discussion board, where learners can exchange ideas. A summary quiz will be offered at the end of each week.
These videos can be used as lecture videos, although they are not required.
