Course Description

Boundary is an engineering term. Boundaries can be defined by limitations in technology, resources and, last but not least, legislation. New challenges are presented by the stricter emission legislation that is getting tighter every day. The current Euro VI emission norms or similar are in place. We are working towards zero tailpipe emissions norms for the automotive fraternity. This course was designed to meet industry requirements. It is important to be able to calibrate the engine and the aftertreatment system. Students often have difficulty answering questions when they are asked about simulation tools. Candidates will feel more confident when facing interviews because important concepts are covered and examples of GT Power are provided. This course is suitable for those who are new to the calibration field and want to implement a 1D simulation tool on Hardware in-Loop (Hil), system to reduce physical testing. Topics include emission norms, simulation tools, SI vs CI combustion calibration challenges, and case studies on heavy duty applications. To gain a better understanding of the calibration concept, these topics will be covered. Calibration is complex and requires an understanding of IC engine basics, optimization and emission correlations. Customer requirements and other relevant information are also required. All of these issues are addressed in an honest effort. However, the course is kept interesting and manageable for students to understand. If someone is interested, technical references will be provided whenever necessary.
Covid-19 has revolutionized the way that employees work. It is becoming more common for employees to work remotely and it is changing the way that they do business. The importance of simulation tools is increasing exponentially. OEMs now consider Simulation tools the best way to minimize physical testing. This course will help you to navigate the way towards future emission norms using simulation tools, and fulfill your long-held dream of avoiding physical tests.
