Course Description

The second course in a series of four courses, Key Concepts of Organizational DE&I, explores the fundamental principles of DE&I as well as how they impact organizational decision-making. These concepts are not new, but this course focuses on them from the perspective of an equal opportunity professional who has experience in resolving discrimination complaints and delivering DE&I programs to influence organizational culture.

You will be able to:

1. Demonstrate the ability and willingness to connect the fundamental principles of DEI (equal chance, bias, power and privilege) and to use awareness exercises to influence behavior in your company.

2. Identify the differences between is (such as racist and sexist), phobias, such as Xenophobia), bias and other forms discriminatory thinking.

3. Discuss ways you and your employees can use culture competence to reduce the negative impact of prejudices, biases and stereotypes on organization decision-making.

4. Describe the key elements of systemic discrimination, and how power and privilege can be managed to create inclusive organizations.
