Hey there! We are glad you are interested in this class. This class will be focused on creating patterns with reflected parts using the Flip Flip Techniques for Intricate pattern Design Using Live Transforms template. We created a live transform template that works in Illustrator similar to the Pattern Maker tool, but with the added benefit of being able to reflect parts. This class assumes you are familiar with pattern-making and have completed the template. We will discuss both the technical and design aspects of reflected repetitions. We will also experiment with layout techniques and structures that add depth and interest to our designs. I will demonstrate the Appearance Panel and effects using live and transformation transformations throughout. Although this class is based on Adobe Illustrator, many of the concepts can be applied to Affinity Designer and Procreate.

You probably know that I consider the Appearance Panel one of the most important features in this Illustrator. This course also teaches you many other important concepts, such as brushes and how to create repeating patterns.

The Transform effect is also available! This dynamic effect creates patterns of content that are easy to manipulate, allowing you make adjustments to the original object. In the previous class, I demonstrated how to create half-drop repetitions and the initial grid pattern. The Transform is extremely powerful, especially when combined to a clipping mask. The power of transformation is knowing a lot. It gives you power that you may not have considered. This class Flip Flap Techniques for Intricate Design Using Live Transform will teach you how to create a template and the incredible power of the Transformer Effect in Illustrator.

I will show how to use the template for multiple repeat designs, including modified scurve, ogee, and quatrefoil patterns. These skills will allow you to create a beautiful motif in no time! Although we will be using reflect-and-rotate effects, the skills you learn can be easily transferred to other functions. This intro will give you a brief overview of the class' contents. We will also discuss the benefits of the transform effect.

Lesson 1 - Overview, Inspiration, and Examples

I review the Flip Flop Transformation class results, and then I show you the beginnings to the improvements I made to my design. This class will build on the Flip Flop class.

Lesson 2 - Altering the lnitial Curve and Basic Setup

We will play with the initial S-curve in this lesson to see how it affects the overall shape. To create the underlying shapes, we will use the Pathfinder Palette.

Lesson 3 - Brush Magic for Pattern Building

This lesson will show you how to create a pattern swatch using mainly brushes. I will show you why brushes are great for quick pattern building.

Lesson 4 - Clipping the Mask Adjustments and Honing The Pattern

This lesson focuses on the clipping mask. We also expand the appearance of our brushes to get more details. I will show you many ways to add interest.

Lesson 5 - Adding Additional Detail To Original S-Curve

This lesson will provide additional details to the original s-curve. We will use many Illustrator functions. We add a cute accent to the lines and hearts by using dashed lines. I will explain how layering creates visual interest.

Lesson 6 - Polka Dots & Serated Border Pattern Brush

We will continue to add detail to the original s-curve in this lesson. I will show you how create Polka Dots to enhance a shape, and how to make a Pattern Brush. We will also make other fine-tuned adjustments.

Lesson 7 - Quatrefoil using Offset Path and

This lesson will teach you how to use the template to create a Quatrefoil Pattern ceramic tile-like Quatrefoil Pattern. You can use the template to its fullest potential.

Lesson 8 - Extracting the Pattern and Color Fun

I want to encourage and show you many possibilities in this final lesson. We will use the file pattern tile to extract the data. Prepare to be inspired! You will be amazed at how excited I was to see what I could accomplish with this template as I went along.
