This project will teach you how to use Scribus to create an online zine. Scribus v1.4.8 is a desktop publishing program that is an Open Source alternative to Indesign. This tool is an excellent option for anyone who wants to expand their software knowledge and improve their editorial production skills. It can be downloaded to any computer. Digital zines are a modern evolution of traditional zines. They are both powerful tools for Visual Communication. Zines were originally created as a way to express oneself, and are known for their small circulation and self-publishing. These peculiarities give traditional zines their distinctive "Lo Fi" aesthetic. They can contain original or adapted texts and images. Zines are intended to communicate art, culture, social issues, abstract concepts, or in the case "fanzines", to discuss specific phenomena. Digital zines are more widely distributed than traditional zines because they can be printed and shared online. They also serve the same purpose as traditional zines, but they can also be used for digital portfolios by companies or practitioners, event and product catalogs, instructional or education manuals, marketing material, and editorial material. To help them explore the possibilities of digital zines, they can be familiarized with Visual Communication to reach a wider audience.
