Description

As a member of the accounting department of a company or as a part of an accounting firm the accounting coordinator is involved in two main roles. Their main responsibility is to oversee a company's finance and other departments. In this capacity the accounting coordinator typically manages accounts payable and receivable and also performs tasks related to bookkeeping, or supervises the people who perform them. Another important task for an accounting manager is serving as the liaison between the financial department of the company and clients from outside, engaging in communication related to transactions, and also executing plans formulated by executives and managers.

The accounting coordinator is responsible for many tasks to perform and should have the ability to oversee multiple departments simultaneously as well as ensure they function in a coordinated manner. This requires a high level of writing and verbal communication and effective time management and analytical and problem-solving abilities. The accounting coordinator should have an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of the bookkeeping and accounting process. Accounting coordinators typically report to the accounting manager of their company (or chief financial officer), and usually operate during normal working hours in an office environment.

Accounting coordinators usually require at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting, with any additional courses in business management that are not required but beneficial. Additionally, they must possess at least 3 to 5 years' experience in an accounting position like an account manager or as an analyst. The status of an accountant certified by the public (CPA) is often preferable.
